Known for decades as one of the world's leading choral ensembles, the Russian State Chorus specializes in a repertoire ranging from the grandiose choral works of great Russian composers to the charming folk songs that have been composed throughout Russia's glorious history. Founded by Alexander Sveshnikov in 1936, the ensemble has had the honor of premiering works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev. They began touring in 1945 and have since performed on nearly all of the world?s great stages. They have also captured top prizes and honors from competitions in numerous countries.
The glorious voices of 45 men and women comprise this magnificent Russian State Chorus. Currently, they are under the impeccable direction of Igor Raevski, a graduate of the specialized School of Choral Music, A.V. Sveshnikov, and the State Conservatory of Music in Moscow. This ensemble truly serves as a shining representative of the former Soviet Union?s deep tradition and heritage in choral music.
